How Dosatron Works Without Electricity
The Dosatron is a water-motor dosing unit. It installs directly in the water supply line, and the flow of water through it drives its operation. As water enters the unit, it moves a piston that draws a small, proportional quantity of concentrated chemical from a stock tank and injects it into the water stream. The proportion is fixed by the unit’s setting and is mechanically maintained regardless of changes in flow rate.
There are no electrical components in the Dosatron. No motor, no solenoid, no control circuit, no battery. The energy that drives the dosing action comes entirely from the water pressure and flow that the system already has. Why This Matters on Remote Farms

Because the dose is expressed as a ratio of concentrate to water flow — typically set in millilitres per litre or as a percentage — the concentration in the water delivered to the animals remains constant regardless of how many animals are drinking at any given moment. Whether one nipple drinker or fifty are open simultaneously, the ratio holds.
This is the fundamental advantage over batch preparation in header tanks: the dose does not depend on estimating how much water will be consumed, and it does not become more concentrated or more dilute as the tank empties. The Dosatron adjusts automatically to actual consumption, delivering the correct concentration continuously.
Applications in Malaysian Livestock and Agriculture
In Malaysian broiler and layer operations, the Dosatron is used for water-soluble medication, vitamin supplementation, electrolyte replacement during heat stress, and water line sanitisation. In aquaculture, it is used for pond water treatment and feed additive delivery. In rubber and oil palm estates, it is used for fertigation — delivering soluble fertiliser through irrigation systems that may serve areas far from the nearest power point.
